RIG & SAIL SURVEY
The surveyor will give an informed, professional and unbiased opinion on the condition of the rig,
The standing rig of any sailing yacht is under constant load / tension from the rigging screws or turnbuckles, whether underway sailing, kept in a marina berth or out at anchor. Therefore, the stress on the rigging screws and all attachment points, also the mast base and step, should be carefully inspected for any signs of failure on a regular basis. This should also include the chain plates and their own attachments methods/points to the vessel’s hull, as access permits.
The rig should be carefully inspected for defects or failures, especially before undertaking a long ocean passage. For example, wear and tear on mast and boom, gooseneck and crosstrees, clevis pins and toggles.
If the rig has not been taken down for many years, it is advisable to un-step the mast and lay it ashore for closer and better examination of every accessible part.
At the time of the survey, all running rigging will also be inspected for wear or tear.
Sails will be checked for UV damage, stitching faults and wear and tear.
Our Surveyor, also a qualified rigger, has a long history of experience with all types of rigs and rigging. From Gaff rig and wooden masts, to standard cruising rig, including modern synthetic fibre rigging.
Advice and consultancy on the rig and its set up will be included in the report findings.
The surveyor may advise a sea trial to better observe the vessels performance.
