Coaching & Sail Training on your Own Yacht
If you are new to sailing, just bought a new to you boat or transitioned from a monohull to a catamaran or vice versa, we can help you to gain confidence and use the vessel to its full capacities. Your personal comfort will always be our priority and your level of experience will determine the coaching steps.
As example, an owner who had just bought a modern 47ft sloop, asked Chris to guide him through how the reefing system works and to take him offshore in stronger winds in order to teach him how to handle his own boat in such conditions. Several defects were found in the running rigging from an inspection which were adjusted and corrected. Chris took the owner out sailing on his own boat to instruct him on the best methods on how to manage his boat in all conditions. In addition, he showed the owner how to maintain the gear and equipment himself. The owner can now strip down and rebuild a large sheet winch with confidence. The owner had very little experience before the first meeting but now sails safely on extended voyages, single-handed.
For example, we are often approached by seasoned sailors, who have a specific issue with their vessel. We will go aboard to inspect and discuss the issue with the owner in order to find a suitable solution.
For another example; an OVNI 44.5 would not go to windward very well, which was very frustrating for the crew. After a quick inspection of the rig, Chris found the forestay very slack, much too long and the turnbuckle already threaded all the way in and the mast was raked too far aft. The swept back cross trees and shrouds were found to be overtight as were the backstays. Chris advised the owner on how to rectify the issues and now the vessel sails very close to the wind at a good speed, as it should be.
